More than a retreat.
A structured week.

This seven-day programme is for practitioners who want to go deeper — in their practice, their understanding, and their relationship with yoga. Whether a teacher training is on the horizon or not.

Every day, Danushka teaches. Not from a fixed script, but in response to who is in the room. He adjusts the balance of Hatha, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa each day — guided by what the group needs and what individuals are ready for.

The mornings are practice. The afternoons are philosophy, breathwork, and alignment work. The evenings are quiet, and usually end with conversation over dinner.

By the end of the week, you will
  • Understand your practice on a deeper level — the mechanics, the breath, the why behind what you do
  • Have a personal practice framework you can take home and continue independently
  • Feel more confident on the mat — in alignment, in transitions, in stillness
  • Have clarity on where your practice is heading — and whether a YTT is the right next step

This is not a flexible retreat stay. It is a structured week with a shared rhythm, a consistent small group, and a clear intention: to go deeper. It runs on fixed dates and begins and ends together.

Danushka teaching yoga at Yoga Bee Retreat Sri Lanka
Your teacher

Danushka holds a 500hr Yoga Alliance certification and spent over a decade as resident yogi at a 5-star Maldivian resort. He has taught hundreds of practitioners — beginners and experienced yogis alike. What sets him apart is his ability to read a room and adapt from the very first session. He has guided numerous guests through this exact transition — from dedicated practitioner to someone ready to teach.

A week with intention and rhythm.

Morning · 7:00 – 9:00
Morning Yoga Session
Hatha, Ashtanga, or Vinyasa — led by Danushka and adapted each day to the group's progress. Pranayama and warm-up included. Followed by a homemade Sri Lankan breakfast.
Late Morning · 10:00 – 12:00
Philosophy, Anatomy & Alignment
Workshop sessions rotating through yoga philosophy, functional anatomy, alignment principles, and the foundations of cueing. Practical and grounded — not academic.
Afternoon · Free time
Rest, Beach & Integration
Time to absorb the morning, visit Bentota beach (complimentary tuk-tuk), or simply rest in the garden. Structured downtime is part of the programme design.
Late Afternoon · 17:00 – 18:30
Second Practice or Breathwork
A second session each day — sometimes a full practice, sometimes focused breathwork, restorative work, or teaching practicum. The rhythm shifts across the week.
Evening
Dinner & Conversation
Homemade Sri Lankan vegetarian dinner by Kanchana. Evenings are relaxed — shared meals, quiet reflection, and the kind of informal conversation that often turns out to be the most useful part of the week.

Questions about this programme

No. This is a preparation retreat designed to deepen your practice and help you explore whether the path of teaching feels right for you — without the structure or pressure of a full 200-hour training. No certification is issued.
You should have a consistent yoga practice — ideally at least two years of regular classes in Hatha, Ashtanga, or Vinyasa. You should feel comfortable in guided sessions and have a basic understanding of foundational poses. This programme is not suitable for beginners.
The group is intentionally small — a maximum of 6 participants. This allows Danushka to give personal attention to each person throughout the week, and keeps the environment calm and focused.
Yes. Many participants join simply to deepen their personal practice or reconnect with what they love about yoga. No YTT registration is required, and there is no expectation to decide anything about teaching.
Days begin with a morning yoga session, followed by breakfast. Afternoons rotate between philosophy workshops, breathwork, and alignment clinics. A second practice session takes place in the late afternoon. Evenings are quiet — shared dinner, conversation, and rest.
